Urška Lobnikar

In the year 2000, as the world worried over the millennium bug, Urška was starting her own adventure at the Central Library in Celje. There, she earned her Cobiss license and juggled roles from managing the information desk to leading the acquisition and processing department.

By 2007, she had taken her talents to the Valvasor Library in Krško, where she quickly took the reins of the acquisition and processing department. In 2012, she stepped up as the director. In this role, she tackled numerous challenges with a mix of seasoned expertise and continuous learning. This position suited her well because it came with a large office—though it’s so packed you can’t even fit a pencil sharpener in it anymore—and because she always got the last say, well, at least in most cases. Her crowning achievements? Let’s highlight just two, because there are far too many for such a short resume: initiating the Posavje Mobile Library service and overseeing the construction of the new central library building, completed in 2022—adding just a bit of architecture to her repertoire.

Also, in 2007, she joined the executive board of the Public Libraries Section at the Slovenian Library Association, leading it from 2013 to 2017 and continuing as a member thereafter. The tasks? Promoting diverse aspects of the public librarian profession and orchestrating various events. Since 2013, she has also been actively involved with the Slovenian Public Libraries Association, and recently, she rolled up her sleeves in a working group planning the cultural program for the municipality of Krško for the period 2021-2025.

As for personal traits, Urška is communicative, as you will soon experience, hardworking, flexible, and responsible—always ready to dive into new challenges, preferably headfirst.
