Visual artist and designer
Silvio Vujičić (1978, Zagreb) is a visual artist and fashion designer whose artistic work deals with the themes of clothing fetishes, sexual identity, painting pigments, gardens, toxic and psychoactive substances, death and transience. His projects rely on myths, alchemical records, the history of art and fashion, which he breaks down into chemical, symbolic, social and political elements, connecting history and modernity. He works in the media of graphics, sculpture, installation and performance, which are characterized by the processes of transformation of matter through creation or disappearance. The material he uses is rare, dangerous or ephemeral, such as extracts from illegal plants, pure caffeine or perfume from bodily secretions, and he makes them according to his own recipes using chemical laboratory methods of crystallization, distillation, extraction and sublimation.
He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb. Since 2002, he has exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and internationally (Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, China, Japan, the USA), among which are the International Triennial of New Media Art, Beijing (2011, 2014); Digiark, National Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan (2014); FRAC desPays de la Loire, Carquefou (2012); MSU, Zagreb (2005, 2009, 2012); Platform3 – Spaces for Contemporary Art, Munich (2010); Device_art, Zagreb-San Francisco-Beijing (2004, 2006, 2010). His works are included in museum and private collections in Croatia and abroad: Lauba and MSU, Zagreb; Albertina, Vienna; FRAC des Pays de la Loire, Carquefou. He is the winner of the 8th Croatian Triennial of Graphics (2019) and the 40th Youth Salon in Zagreb (2006).
